5-Axis CNC Production Machining

Reaction Injection Molding (RIM)

The RIM process enables us to accomplish low volume plastic molding, in larger size parts which are not capable in thermoplastic injection molding.

RIM molding allows us to mold rigid polyurethane plastic parts using low pressure and low mold temperature.

Our material of choice is Baydur 726IBS, an Interactive Blowing Systems. Baydur 726 is used in applications requiring a UL94 flammability rating of V-O and/or 5VA, generally used in electronic, medical, and appliance markets. The applications typically take advantage of the materials strength, excellent surface finish, and large part capabilities. Baydur 726 is a high density polyurethane structural foam system, which when injected into a mold forms a durable urethane part. Wall thickness less than .250" are solid urethane, while wall thickness over .250" are actually structural foam core with a durable solid wall. Typical properties of a system: Specific density .88", suggested wall thickness .250", and Hardness 81D (55lbs cu/ft).

RIM advantages include:

    • Design Freedom: Thin and thick walls can be designed into the part, we recommend consistency.
    • Insert Molding: Is recommended in order to reduce assembly cost.
    • Draft: 3 degrees is recommended.
    • Radii: 1/8" is preferred.
    • Bosses: Should be ribbed to a wall whenever possible. For stand alone bosses, gusseting is recommended.
    • Ribs: Although sink marks are uncommon, rib thickness of 70-80% of the wall thickness is recommended.
    • Finishing: Parts are painted are/or textured either in house or per your specifications.
